Memories

by Renton de Alwis

Fading into thin air
I desperately cling to them
to hold back,
something,
anything,
whispered, touched, felt,
like dew drops
I see,
on the lotus leaf
still floating,
soaking sun
after the rains, floods,
of the egret
that missed its prey
early this morning,
many attempts
went empty,
of pigeons
come to drink,
look in the mirror
and ask
who’s the prettiest,
lonely frog,
late for resting
busy night’s work
a dark,
dark corner
for refuge,
seek a dark, dark corner
dew drops, egret, pigeons,
squirrel and frog,
need you to stay,
a little while more,
another dawn,
another day…
