Innocence

by Renton de Alwis

Proven beyond any doubt
convicted and bound
a life stays stolen
to be pronounced guilty
guilty of giving
sharing with no reservation
love’s wondrous touch...

a tear at the eye’s corner
gathers more weight
shines in the sun
resists many calls
before it yields
to gravitational pull...

a whispering sigh
a breath, a gasp of wind
held tunnelled in
let go you must
as for Godot,
he will never come.
