A cold February morning

by Renton de Alwis

After last night's gale winds
my February morn
has chosen to stay
wrapped in a
soft blanket
piercing cold
came dressed
in thirteen red
lotus blooms
two egrets
eager to greet
pond's fish
little tortoise kid
poked his nose
only for a while
wild pigeon
drinks watched
by drops on
lotus leaves
shining in the
morning sun
in a while
they'll all go
to Sunday school with
little Podi
to be sung about.
Chubby barks
the morning in.
