Memories
by Renton de Alwis

Full moon glaced
vihara maluva
* sands
Mother, you sat still
with closed eyes
in meditation
Poya day
+ pale
soft wind
danced saree end
naughty me
by your side
played
hide and seek
felt softness of the drape
let my face sweep
you touched my head
I still recall
soothing calm
I don’t know why
I looked up at the moon.

*Vihara Maluva is the sand laid circular ground area at the base of a Buddhist stupa
+ Full moon Day of each month. A day of significance for Buddhists.  A public holiday devoted for religious activities.
